29 Weeks (and 2 Days)

Week 29 -This week he weighs about 2 1/2 pounds and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel.Your baby has tiny eyelashes, fine eyebrows, and ever-lengthening fingernails, but his internal organs are doing the most work this week. His brain is growing rapidly, adding millions of brain cells, and his head is also getting bigger to accommodate all that brilliance. But the biggest news this week is about the baby’s defenses: with help from the placenta, Baby is developing an immune system, which gets stronger by the day. The placenta actually begins taking up some of the antibodies from your blood stream and transferring them to the baby in order to prepare for the onslaught of germ exposure once the baby comes out into the world. As the baby builds up his defenses, he is also putting on weight, so much so that you can no longer see the web of blood vessels beneath his skin.

Gender: We are waiting for the birth for the big reveal.

Names: Roland or Charlotte

What My Body Is Doing: I’m mostly feeling really great. Occasionally I have (what I’m assuming is..) a foot in the ribs, calf spasms at night and any energy that I’ve gained the past few weeks is completely gone. I’m back to having to nap daily.

Weight: I’ve gained 23 lbs. since becoming pregnant.

Fetal Movement: All day every day. Sometimes Peanut kicks so hard I can’t help but gasp.

Cravings: Nothing at all.

Aversions: Nothing.

What you miss: This weekend I’m totally missing having an ice cold beer but it’s worth the wait.

Best moment this week: When Kyle successfully heard Peanut’s heart beating by laying his ear on my stomach. How amazing is that? I wish I could bend down enough to hear it myself.

Look Forward To: I can’t wait for my shower in June which my sister has been working so hard on, to be surrounded by all my friends and family, some which I haven’t seen in so long. There are so many things I look forward to - most of all, seeing our baby for the first time and hearing my doctor say either, “It’s a boy!” or “It’s a girl!” and seeing the look on my husband’s face. Ah, I get butterflies just thinking about that moment.

Yep, my belly button is officially starting to pop out.

Flashback Friday - 2007

I miss that hair edition.

Also, this was such a fun night. I think it was my first experience ever going to a club, and was without a doubt one of the most enjoyable, even though I can count on one hand the times I’ve been to one. I must be kind of boring.

Short Conversations with Strangers,

Everywhere I go now I get comments on my belly. I’m no longer at that stage where strangers are un-sure on whether to say something or not and I’m really loving the response so far. Just this week I’ve had several funny conversations.

  • On my way into a restaurant an old man told me he would hold the door for me if I named my kid after him. “You have to name him Donald now!” then his old man friend said, “No you have to name him Bill, that’s my name. It’s a much better name.”, “No, Donald!”, “No, Bill!”. They argued about it all the way out the door.
  • Another old man stopped me and asked if it was my first child. When I said yes he went on to tell me that he’s had three. “The first one was born on January 24th. The second one was born on January 24th. Guess when the third one was born? January 24th!” I went on to ask him if they were triplets and he assured me they weren’t, but went on to tell me one of them is a heart surgeon who performed the surgery on Bill Clinton and that another one of them started the company Party City and had sold it since. As he walked away he was grumbling about never seeing a nickel from it.
  • The butcher at my local grocery store stopped me last night to ask if we knew what gender we were having. After I told him we were waiting to find out he “inspected” me and told me it was “for sure a girl because you don’t have enough junk in your trunk for it to be a boy!”

Last Monthly Check-Up

Today was my last 4 week appointment, they are now going to be every 2 weeks. I hope this makes the whole thing go by even faster than it has been. I’m so anxious to meet our baby!

Peanut’s heartbeat was 144, and my uterus measured “perfect” again. I was curious to find out what my glucose results had been since I had never received a call back and found out it was 94, which is also supposedly really good. I was really surprised to find out I passed in the first place because I’ve never eaten so many sweets in my life since becoming pregnant.

I also was waiting to be told that I’ve gained too much weight (24 pounds after today) but the doctor said I was doing really well and was gaining the appropriate amount for each week. I should now be gaining a pound - pound in a half every week.

I told my husband this weekend (just to see the heart attack response I’d get) that I’d like to raise an army because being pregnant has been so enjoyable for me. I wish everyone to have as good as an experience as I’m having. ::knock on wood::

Only about 12 more weeks left! Ahh!
